FACT: Everyone loves pigs in a blanket.
(Ok, perhaps if you’re a vegetarian or a celiac, then maybe you don’t love them, but everyone else… LOVE.)
Think about it… when you are at a party and that tray of those adorable little hot dogs wrapped in pillowy dough comes around, you are at minimum grabbing two (or 10.)
So what if I told you these are even BETTER than the pigs and blankets you know and love?
Why? Because these little bites of heaven are also rolled in a homemade everything bagel seasoning and dunked in a Dijon scallion cream cheese dipping sauce… combining the best of an everything bagel and a hot dog all in one delicious bite!
I originally developed this recipe for a fun little Golfweek video back in the spring, and then tweaked it in December for a sponsored post with Morton Salt. I decided I liked them so much that they deserved a permanent spot on my blog. (Plus… these would be PERFECT for Super Bowl!)
This version includes a recipe for homemade everything bagel seasoning, which is super easy to make! All I did was combine sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, dried garlic, brown mustard seeds (optional), and coarse sea salt.
Using store-bought crescent dough, cut dough into strips and wrap around the cocktail franks. (Or “‘Lil Weenies” as I kept calling them.)
Roll each dough-wrapped cocktail frank in the Everything Bagel Seasoning and place seam-side down on a parchment-lined sheet pan.
Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
For the Dijon Scallion Cream Cheese dip, mix together 8 ounces of softened cream cheese, 1-2 sliced scallions, a tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1/4 cup sour cream and season with sea salt, to taste.
Share with your friends… or don’t. 🙂
Homemade Everything Bagel Spice will make your pigs in blankets even more irresistable, especially when served with Dijon Scallion Cream Cheese dip. For the Pigs in Blankets: Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Combine spices in a bowl and stir well. Unroll crescent dough and cut into strips.Wrap each cocktail frank in dough and roll in the bowl of seasoning. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. For the Dijon Scallion Cream Cheese: Combine cream cheese, scallions, mustard, sour cream and salt in a medium bowl. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with Everything Bagel Pigs in Blankets. If using the Everything Bagel Seasoning on its own (and you don't plan to use it in a baked recipe), I recommend toasting the sesame seeds first.Everything Bagel Pigs in Blankets
